Cornwall was largely untouched by the Roman conquest of Britain and was England's last haven for a Celtic culture resulting in the many Celtic place names and a region with a language all of its own. Its thriving industrial past was mainly based around mining of copper and tin in the 18th/19th centuries which is reflected by several living history museums available to visit today giving an interesting insight into days gone by.
