Cornwall has a rich history that will reward you with great memories if you immerse yourself it but visiting the many great museums and heritage sites. We have put together a list of Cornish museums and heritage sites well worth a visit.

Geevor Tin Mine - nr Penzance

Up until 1990 a working mine, now a museum and the largest preserved mining site in the UK. The site consists of many surface buildings, shop and cafe and a guided underground tour. Visit the Geevor Tin Mine website www.geevor.com, which is very informative with lots of useful information and pictures. The Geevor Tin Mine is located in the far west of Cornwall, on the Atlantic Coast.



Poldark Mine - Helston

Poldark offers a rare chance to go underground and follow the footsteps of Tin Miners in Cornwall and explore exciting tin mine workings dating from the eighteenth-century. The most 'Atmospheric Mine Tour' in Britain and classed as a World Heritage Site. China Clay Country Park - St Austell

Provides visitors with a fascinating insight into china clay, how it was mined, what it was used for and what it meant for the families who lived in the area. Set in 26 acres of beautiful woodland, in the historic Ruddle Valley on the outskirts of St Austell. The Park is now part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site and is located in the grounds of two former working china clay pits.



Porthcurno Telegraph Museum - Porthcurno

Tells a story of British international telegraph cable communications from the 1850s to the 1950s. Discover the importance of cable communication between the UK and the rest of the World, during 1941 the cable communication stations were moved underground to protect from enemy bombings, you can now enter underground to see the original equipment. There is ample car and coach parking, the site has a cafe providing hot and cold drinks.



National Maritime Museum - Falmouth

A seafront museum celebrating the sea with lots of boats, hands on activities and exhibitions. Museum has a shop and cafe.



Tate Gallery - St Ives

Tate St Ives presents modern and contemporary art, often created in or associated with Cornwall. Plenty of events from talks to courses to music and more. Tate family pack is designed to keep the children interested by providing activity packs, interactive talks and more.



Bodmin and Wenford Railway - Bodmin

This railway is Cornwall's only standard gauge railway still operated by steam locomotives and the trains run through some delightful Cornish scenery. The main station on the line is at Bodmin General, the station includes the engine sheds, souvenir shop and refreshment room in the restored station buildings. Boscarne junction has a direct link with the Camel Trail cycle and footpath.



Royal Cornwall Museum - Truro

The oldest museum in Cornwall and the leading museum on Cornish Culture. The museum has an astonishing array of objects, from our famous unwrapped mummy, fine arts and world cultures to Greek and Roman objects.



Museum of Witchcraft - Boscastle

The world's largest collection of witchcraft related artefacts and regalia. Established for over 40 years and is one of Cornwall's leading museums and is very popular with family holidaymakers. Provides excellent guided tours.
