The Eden Project was opened in 2001 and is one of Cornwall’s major tourist attractions. The whole complex is made up of a series of biomes on a former china clay mining site. The largest biome represents the humid tropics planted with many tropical varieties including fully grown trees around a giant water feature with the emission of mist giving the impression of a rain forest. The smaller biome represents the warm, Mediterranean climate with plantings such as olives, grape vines and citrus fruits. The extensive surrounding grounds are landscaped with large scale designs and sculptures. Eden is described as a project as its main aim is education by spreading the word that humanity is dependant upon the plant world so alongside the visitor attractions and plant sales are exhibitions and talks as well as ancillary study and training centres.www.edenproject.com
