The bustling market town of Helston is located between Falmouth and St. Ives and is ideally located for exploring the south west of Cornwall with good road routes to the different coasts and areas of outstanding natural beauty.

The town is very friendly and has many wonderful places to stay at during your holiday stay. The buildings are mainly a mix of Victorian and Georgian design with some great monuments, local pubs, shops and restaurants.

The Lizard Peninsular is the most southerly point of the mainland with rugged bays and superb beaches and a diverse range of flora. Much of the Lizard Peninsular is designated a site of special scientific importance and a protected nature reserve. This is a sparsely populated region with tiny villages apart from the regions chief town of Heston known for its folk museum and tradition of the Flora or Furry Dance. Helston was originally a port town on the River Cober, this changed when the sea outlet became silted up by deposits from the tin mines but Helston remained an important centre as a Stannary Town.

Helston Folk Museum is housed in market buildings behind the guildhall where you can learn all about the towns' history, the Furry Dance which is held annually on May 8th. There are also interesting sections on Victorian life and mining and quarrying in the local area. At the bottom of Coinagehall Street, Helstons main thoroughfare, is Grylls Monument which was erected on the former site of Helston Castle which guarded the Cober Valley but was a ruin by 1478. Just outside Helston is the Flambards Experience where there are white knuckle rides, family entertainment, exhibitions and events throughout the year.
