Looe lies on the south Cornwall coast at the mouth of where the East and West Looe rivers meet. It has been a popular destination since the first bathing machines were on the beach but the arrival of the railway in 1879 really packed the town. Today a scenic way to visit Looe is on the Looe Valley Line, the railway runs along the course of the East Looe River from Liskeard. The Old Guildhall Museum in East Looe holds a diverse collection of maritime exhibits and puppets also fascinating is the 15th century building its housed in which was once a magistrate's court and jail.

Most of the crowds come to see East Looe's harbour with working fishing vessels alongside the craft used for tourist boat trips where you can go shark fishing or just take a scenic cruise along the coast. A popular excursion from Buller Quay is out to the bird sanctuary on Looe Island a mile offshore with a marked trail around the island this is a great place for a ramble. Many tourists head for the lively sandy beaches of East Looe but a quieter, calmer time can be had on the bays and coves of West Looe.
