The Penwith Peninsular the most westerly point of the mainland sits mainly on granite bedrock which has led to the formation of a rugged coastline with many superb sandy beaches and inland the moorland makes up part of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Penzance or 'holy headland' in the Cornish Language is the main town for the region boasting some pretty Georgian architecture and a lively friendly atmosphere with some fine restaurants, pubs and nightclubs.

The silver domed Victorian Market House marks the centre of the town and in front stands a statue of Humphrey Davy a local woodcarver's son who pioneered the science of electrochemistry and invented the life saving miners safety lamp.

Penzance occupies a sheltered position at the northwest corner of Mount's Bay with the harbour providing a departure point for ferries to the Isles of Scilly as well as pleasure trips for deep sea fishing, coastal cruises and wildlife watching. A stroll along the long promenade and you can admire the Art Deco Jubilee Pool, a tidal open air swimming pool built to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of George V in 1935.
