The charming old mining town of St Agnes lies 5 miles north of Redruth and about a mile from the North Cornwall Coast. Peterville with its streets of granite cottages at the lower part of the village connects to Churchtown at the upper end by the steep Town Hill with its pretty terrace cottages. In Churchtown St Agnes Church dates from 304 and holds some old relics from several historic times.
St Agnes Museum south of Churchtown occupies a former chapel of rest and has a collection of items relating to local history and culture. A mile or so from St Agnes is the Blue Hills Tin Streams where you can find out everything about Cornwalls Tin Mining industry.
There are great beaches around St Agnes, including Chapel Porth a wide expanse of white sand at low tide and stony at other times. The cliffs at St Agnes Head support a large colony of kittiwakes, fulmars and guillemots whilst grey seals are often spotted out at sea.
One of Cornwall’s best vistas is from St Agnes Beacon 192m high with views inland to Bodmin Moor and across the peninsular to St Michaels Mount.
