Guide to Wadebridge in Cornwall

Wadebridge is a market town in North Cornwall about 8 miles up the Camel River from Padstow. It is ideally situated as a holiday base for exploring the countryside including the many areas of outstanding natural beauty within a short drive like Bodmin Moor. With its main town centre traffic free Wadebridge offers great shopping, traditional pubs, cafes and restaurants.

An impressive bridge with seventeen arches was built across the River Camel in the 15th Century due to the number of deaths of humans and animals crossing the river and the settlement of Wade became Wadebridge at this time. In the 18th century it was Cornwall's main corn exporting ports.

Two of Cornwall's biggest annual events take place at Wadebridge: The Cornwall Folk Festival during the August Bank Holiday and featuring acts from all around the world and The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Show which lasts for three days in June and dates back to 1793 with sheepdog displays, marching bands and sheep racing.

Wadebridge is ideally suited for accessing the Camel Trail a great recreational level route for cyclists, walkers and horse riders with the disused railway line from Wadebridge to Wenfordbridge forming part of this 17 mile trail and there are several places offering bike hire in the area.

If you enjoy an active holiday then hire a bike from the many bike hire places in Wadebridge and cycling along the 17 miles of the Camel Trail stopping along the way to enjoy the scenery and get a quick refreshment from one of the many cafes along the route.
