Porthia is very conveniently situated, being halfway along the street leading to 'The Island', also known as 'St Ives Head', (see aerial view and 'Additional Pictures'), the headland with a tiny chapel on its peak, which divides the town's two main beaches, Porthmeor (great for surfing) and Porthgwidden. It is also a short walk away from a car park (weekly tickets available). St Ives' harbour, specialist craft and antique shops, pubs, restaurants and internationally famous art galleries, including the New Tate, are within easy walking distance and the surrounding area provides an almost endless variety of visitor attractions - the Land's End & Lizard peninsulas, St Michael' s Mount (N.T) and the Helford River, with many beautiful coves, headlands and landmarks to explore on foot or by car.
